At Motorsport Biomechanics we optimise racing driver performance whilst racing a car. We work across all types of single seater racing including Formula 1, Indycar, Nascar racing, Formula E, Formula 2, Formula 3 series, Formula Renault, Formula Ford and many more.
Muscle fatigue in high performance sports is an interesting topic for our team of scientists and is critical in all forms of motorsports; fatigue levels can make the difference between winning or coming second in a race. We collect valuable data on the amount of muscle activity, which tells us how hard each muscle is working. We also collect muscle fatigue data to help the driver optimise racing technique.
We investigate and improve the efficacy of driver physical training, working with strength and conditioning coaches to get the most out of driver gym time, and remove gym wastage from training plans to optimise training efficiency. It is just as important to work with engineers, so they have a clear understanding of the drivers’ muscle activity whilst racing a car and to better understand the effects of driver technique on pedal and steering and much more.
